Moving along

Posted in Pondering the Publications on 20 December 2007 by naliyat23Blog space = a way to go back and remember while acting as if you’re surfing the internet.
From last semester (did we have any reading in this studio??)
…the Easterling reading “powerful sites are improvisational and responsive to the circumstantial changes of anarchical organizations”.
There is something about layering in here. Something about how the layering of the interstitial creates both the origin and the result at the same time and relates them to each other. This relationship creates something new, a kind of base for other forms to creep out of.
Just wanted to keep those in mind.
Let’s try this again…
Posted in Project Thoughts - Swamp on 20 December 2007 by naliyat23So either I have digressed back into last semester cuz i miss the tubes so much, or this project is becoming strangely similar. Last semester = trying to map space using sound. This semester = trying to map space according to… something. I guess according to the potential provided by whatever happened to the space previously that has left some recognizable trace on the land. (I think I’m going to have to make something better up when I have to explain that later…)
I’ve realized that the reason I have been having such a headache over this is the same reason I had last semester. How do you give form to space… or rather model space without the form? Is space the negative of form? Not really. Because the space is always influenced by the form. And of course each space acts upon those around it. So how do you effectively model space without modeling the form? And what happens to that space when it interacts with another?
So here I am again, trying to figure out an effective means to model spaces interacting with other spaces. Kristi has suggested bristol board and that’s it. I think it could work. I have come to the conclusion that I am a terrible model maker though. Perhaps I should think of it more as that I haven’t found my medium. That’s better. So, instead of the tubes we have bristol board. Easier to work with except that I can’t cut straight to save a life.
So what do I do? Well, draw of course. And then I tried to put some starters together. Enh. I like the last one… too bad it’s only a small piece of one of the types of spaces.
I’ve decided that my spaces are defined by potential accessibility. Where another space is closer, it makes the other larger (?)… or closer, perhaps. So where the highway is close to one side of the dummy lines, that side’s pieces are larger (or greater potential exists for accessibility) which deforms the “shape” of the space. Good lord, I must have taken some drugs. We’ll see how that flies tomorrow. Now if I could just model it… (I bet I could do it in 3dsM… maybe I will… one of these days… at least I don’t have to be able to cut straight… it could be martian…)
And a lovely section-ish sketch which I used as an excuse to sit and think…
